Wilson Staff Model R has an unpainted raw finish which ensures the ball behaves consistently through the air. According to Wilson, the paint normally used on the ball can affect the aerodynamics. They have therefore decided to leave the ball completely untreated across the 362 dimples, making the ball completely smooth. Staff Model R is a four-piece golf ball with a urethane cover that provides lots of spin with the irons and wedges into the green. The ball has an outer ionomer mantel and a synthetic rubber core which delivers high ball speed on long shots such as tee shots. The inner HPF mantle layer gives a soft feel and lots of spin at impact. The ball may discolour over time depending on the weather and the condition of the course.
